Set your quit date

Once you've decided you're motivated to quit smoking, pick a date and start getting ready.

Tips for choosing the right quit date

  • Pick a date that's soon, but not too soon - Pick a date within a month to 2 weeks from now, that will give you enough time to prepare but not enough time to change your mind and back out.

  • Find a slow stress time to start - avoid any days that will be particularly stressful with work or family.

  • Sign up for Tobacco Free Tuesday -  a monthly 24hr quitting contest where hundreds of other British Columbians butt out together for a chance to win great prizes.

A note on medications
If you are interested in using a prescription medication (Champix or Zyban) you will first need to talk to your doctor and begin taking the medication ahead of your quit date for it to be effective, so be sure to give yourself enough time.
