Manage withdrawal

When you quit smoking, your body has to adjust to being without nicotine. This is called nicotine withdrawal. Withdrawal symptoms can last about two weeks, but the worst symptoms usually happen during the first few days of your quit. You are most at risk for a slip during this time, so stay strong - it will pass.  

While withdrawal can be quite uncomfortable, there are things you can do to make it less intense. One of the best ways to manage withdrawal is to use nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) or prescription medications. Anger and frustration

Feelings of anger and frustration are typical after you quit, especially within the first few days. Let people know what to expect. Accept the emotions instead of repressing them. Vent your feelings safely, talk with a friend about them, or talk to one of our Quit Coaches.
