Elizabeth, welcome to the forum.  You can do anything you set your mind to if you' re determined and motivated to quit.  Some of us have smoked for 40 years or more and have managed to achieve ours, so it can be done.  I also suffered from heartburn and am now on proton inhibitors which helps and I wouldn't be on them in the first place if I'd quit a long time ago. If it gets worse please pay a visit to your doctor. In the meantime  try to cut down on your smoking and read the previous posts to get some wonderful ideas on how to proceed and give the quit coaches a call for one on one help.  The service is free and they can be reached at 1-877-455-2233.  They have tons of experience and are wonderful and kind.  They will not pressure you but will help in any way they can.  Just give it a try, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. You've already taken the first step by joining the forum and you probably don't even realize it.  We'll also be here to guide you and offer encouragement if you so wish.  Don't say hope you can do this, say you can. When you make your decision let us know and we'll guide you through this most awesome journey.  Much love, Lucille.

You're in the right spot, Elisabeth!  Welcome.  You can definitely do this with the right help!  I tried to quit dozens of times in the past, but with the help of my quitcoach, I was able to make a plan and that really helped me this time.  I've been taking Zyban, and the forum has kept me on track.  I've been quit for five weeks now, and I feel great.  I can't imagine ever going back to smoking, which is not what I was thinking or feeling five weeks ago when I quit.  I strongly recommend you call a quitcoach to start making your own quit plan.  You got this!

It is never too early to quit.   I have COPD and my breathing has improved a lot since I quit January 1, 2019.   Forty-four days later I breath better and walk faster and longer.   Best of luck.
