Quit 193 days ago
I can't believe it's been 6 months! I literally never thought I'd get this far. Especially those first couple weeks. I had to live in the moment and take it day by day, hour by hour. And sure enough those days turned into weeks and months. So to any of you who don't think you can get to this point, you caN and you wiLL if you remember to take it one small step at a time.
I feel so much better health wise. I go jogging now and my clothes don't smell. I don't cough as much or get as many head aches. The list goes on.
And, yeah, those first couple months the cravings were pretty bad but now it's hardly a passing thought and only when I'm around others who smoke. I also had three different slips. Twice on long road trips to stay awake and curb my anxiety. And once during a triggering sexual harassment training. I threw my packs away the next day after each event and got back on the horse immediately which helped. And I didn't beat myself up over too much. Now it's been 6 months since I quit and 4 months since I last smoked a cigarette.
One phrase that helped me get through was this: you'll probably always want a cigarette if the opportunity arises, but as long as you don't want to be a smoker again, you'll find it's easy to resist. Best of luck to all of you trying to quit. You got this. You're strong enough to do this and you're worth it.
