Posting Etiquette
Note: QuitNow community Forums are regularly monitored by the QuitNow Services Support Team members. They may edit or delete any post at their discretion and posting privileges may be cancelled.
Keep on topic
- Search the other posts to see if your topic is already covered.
- Use a meaningful title for your thread.
- Posts should be related to the process of quitting and staying tobacco-free.
- If you want to change the subject start a new topic thread. This way you won’t interrupt a thread (discussion).
- Do not post copyrighted material, links to websites or promote services.
Do not post any information that you want private
- Forum discussion is part of the public domain and can be read by quitnow.ca visitors.
- Posts should not contain personal, identifiable information or content embarrassing to others.
- Refrain from using your last name or other information in your posts that may identify you.
- Maintaining a degree of anonymity makes if safer for members to share personal experiences.
Be respectful of others
- Act in a give and take manner; help others as often as or more than you ask for help.
- Do not use all caps or SHOUT (typing in all capital letters) in your posts.
- Be civil and mind your manners.
- Remember everyone’s experience with quitting is individual and may be different from yours.
- Do not use a forum to promote your product, service or business.
- Do not post content that violates a copyright.
- Watch your sense of humor and language, posts may be read by people from a variety of backgrounds and ages.
- Profanity and sexually explicit content are prohibited.
Be supportive
- Consider saying thank you when you find someone’s response helpful.
- Encourage other members to express themselves.
- Remind other members of their successes, help them appreciate their achievements and stay motivated and tobacco-free.
- Remember you don’t have to solve others’ problems. Try instead to be supportive and acknowledge their difficulties.
- Share your experiences as a successful quitter. Help mentor others by sharing lessons learned
