FAQ - QuitNow By TXT
- When will TXT messages start?
After you register, we will send you a confirmation text message and you must text back 'ACCEPT' for the messages to start. Depending on your quit date, your text messages will start immediately after you reply.*
If you registered Online, you must click the link in your confirmation email to ACTIVATE your account, or your text messages will not be sent.
*Note: If you have set your Quit Date for more than two weeks in the future, there will be a delay in your messages starting.

- How many TXT messages will be sent to me?
You will receive messages that are tailored to different stages of your quitting process.
- During the Pre-Quit Stage: you will receive up to 2 messages per day for two weeks prior to your Quit Date to help you prepare (up to 22 messages);
- During the Active Quit Stage: you will receive on average 2 messages per day for the first three weeks of your quit and 1 msg/per day for the fourth week of your quit (up to 60 messages)
- During the Maintenance Stage: After one month of your quit, you will receive 2 messages per week for two months to help you avoid slips and stay on track (up to 16 messages)
- If you get a craving or have a slip: TXT to 654321 the following key words: ALCOHOL, CHANGE, CRAVE, HELP, HUNGER, SLIP or STRESS. Txt INFO for program details.
- How do I register online?
To register online, complete the Registration Form and 3 things will happen:
- You'll be sent a confirmation email & TXT message
- Click the link in your email to ACTIVATE your account
- TXT back ‘ACCEPT’ to 654321 to start receiving messages
Note: Once you are a member of QuitNow Online you will have access to our community forums and a full range of extra tools and supports to help you quit.

- How do I register by Cell?
To register by Cell, TXT ‘QUITNOW’ to 654321 and 2 things will happen:
- You will be prompted to TXT back your Quit Date
- TXT back the word ‘ACCEPT’ and you'll start receiving text messages

- What if I need extra support?
Cravings can be worse in certain situations. With QuitNow By TXT, you can receive tailored messages anytime to get you through the tough spots.
Text these key words to 654321 anytime, 24/7, to receive extra supportive messages:
ALCOHOL / CRAVE / HUNGER / SLIP / BACK SMOKING / STRESS / HELP. Text INFO for program details.
Or call our 24/7 confidential helpline at 1-877-455-2233 for one-to-one counselling from a quit specialist. A CareCoach® will help you develop a personalized plan to deal with cravings and help you succeed.
- What if I go back to smoking?
If you have gone back to regular smoking, you can text STOP to 654321 to opt out and no further texts will be sent to you.
If you want to start the program again in the future, simply text CHANGE to 654321 and you will be prompted to text back a new Quit Date.
If you registered online, you can also set a new quit date from your Online account in the Subscriptions section of your MY Quit Centre.

- What if I have problems or feedback?

- How do I stop my TXT messages?
If you want to stop the TXT messages permanently:
TXT 'STOP' to 654321; OR
Login to your online account and select 'unsubscribe' in the My Subscriptions page of My Profile.
- I registered by Cell and can't access My Subscriptions.
If you registered by cell phone, you do not have access to the My Subscriptions section of the Online member My Quit Centre to manage your account.
If you want access to the My Quit Centre to change your Quit Date, change your smartphone number, or access our community Forums and a full range of tools and supports to help you quit, you can register online anytime.
- Is there a cost for QuitNow By TXT?
This service is available to all BC residents and there is no additional cost to you, but standard message/data rates may apply, including global roaming charges if you travel outside the country. Check with your mobile provider.
- Who is eligible to sign up?
This program is available for British Columbian residents only. It was created for people who are planning to quit within the next 30 days, including those who have already quit and want to receive motivational messages to keep them on track.
If you don’t have unlimited texts, you can still sign up, but contact your mobile provider for text message rates, as standard message and data rates may apply.
